Income tax is tax charged on taxable income. For resident individuals in Malaysia, income tax is generally calculated using progressive tax rates.
This means higher chargeable income may be taxed at higher tax brackets.
A simple way to estimate income tax is to subtract tax relief from annual income to get chargeable income.
Then, progressive tax rates are applied to the chargeable income.
Chargeable Income = Annual Income - Tax Relief
Estimated Tax = Tax calculated based on progressive tax brackets
If your annual income is RM60,000 and your tax relief is RM9,000, your estimated chargeable income is RM51,000.
The calculator then estimates tax based on progressive resident individual tax brackets.
